FDSET has offices in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Greeneville that are staffed by attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and administrative staff. All three offices handle traditional federal cases such as park cases, drugs and guns, and bank robberies. The capital habeas unit in Knoxville represents clients who are on Death Row.
In addition to representing clients, FDSET provides training and other resources to the CJA panel attorneys in their representation of indigent federal clients. (Attorneys who are admitted to practice in the Eastern District of Tennessee may apply to be on the CJA panel. An application form can be found at the district court's website, www.TNED.UScourts.gov ) FDSET offers case assistance to CJA attorneys including telephone and email consultations, access to law libraries in each of the offices, newsletters, and seminars. Panel attorneys are also encouraged to contact the district's Panel Representative, Robert Kurtz, who serves as a liaison between the panel and the judicial branch.
